Led ZepplinBy Victor Epand

This particular band was extremely successful throughout its career and it was around for quite a while to prove it. The band was active from the year of 1968 until 1980, when they broke up, though they did have occasional reunions later on. They are best recognized for their hard rock, but they also played heavy metal, folk rock and even blues rock.

Members of the band included Jimmy Page, John Bonham, Robert Plant and John Jones. Jimmy Page was the guitarist, John Bonham was on the drums, Robert Plant was the vocals, though he also played the harmonica, and John Jones was the base guitar as well as the keyboards.

In 1968, the first year that the band was together, they released their first album and went on tour in the United States. They were so well accepted in their first year that they completed a total of eight tours, four of which were in the United Kingdom and the other four were in the United States, and managed to put out a second album before the year was over.

Their third album was released in 1970 and by this time their playing had become so influential that it is believed they were the ones who brought in much of the music style played by other bands in the 1970s. Led Zeppelin was able to release a fourth album in 1971.

By this time, the reputation of the band their music took off between 1971 and 1975. During this four year period, their albums would sell like hotcakes and the band's career would be a major success. During the later '70s, the band would continue to tour and perform in front of large audiences, with the exception of the year of 1976 as Robert Plant had been involved in an accident that prevented him and the band from touring that year. Unfortunately, John Bonham died in the year of 1980.

After the funeral, the rest of the band decided that they would all go their separate ways instead of finding a new drummer.

While it may have been sad for many fans that the band broke up after Bonham's death, the surviving members continued to play some music and even came together a few times to perform. In the end, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the United States in 1995 and they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005. The following year, Led Zeppelin was inducted into the Music all of Fame in the United Kingdom.

In 2007, Led Zeppelin would reunite once again to perform in a concert in the U.K. that was meant to help raise money for scholarships for students planning to attend university. They were later offered money for doing a world tour, but they turned it down. Led Zeppelin was a huge hit in the '70s and the waves the band created are still being felt today.

Many young people who were not even born when the band was originally together are big fans of the group. Many young aspiring artists, as well as current artists admit to being greatly inspired and influenced by Led Zeppelin.

Victor Epand is an expert consultant for used CDs, autographed CDs, and used musical instruments. It's good.

I wish it weren’t the case but, it’s not everyday that I get a CD for review that I can just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. There is usually a song or two that I just can’t force myself to get through. Not at all the case with Octavarium. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

Octavarium has a pleasantly varied, mix of 8 tracks that are very well written and brilliantly performed songs by these clearly gifted musicians. With many of the songs displaying a lot of the kind emotion that makes for a really great listen. Seemingly drawing from what I can only imagine are their own real life experiences. At different points touching on the most real emotions of love, heartbreak, pain, failed relationships and unattainable romance. They’re all here.

Overall Octavarium is excellent from beginning to end. One of those CDs that after a few listens the songs are just etched into your memory. A must have for the Rock fan. Really sensational from beginning to end.

While the entire CD is really very good the truly standout tunes are track 2 - The Answer Lies Within, track 4 - I Walk Beside You, and track 8 - Octavarium.

My Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore [...as in "Stuck On REpeat"] is track 1 - The Root Of All Evil. Outstanding!

Octavarium Release Notes:

Dream Theater originally released Octavarium on June 7, 2005 on the Atlantic label.

CD Track List Follows:

1. The Root Of All Evil

2. The Answer Lies Within

3. These Walls

4. I Walk Beside You

5. Panic Attack

6. Never Enough

7. Sacrificed Sons

8. Octavarium

Dream Theater: John Petrucci (vocals, guitar); Mike Portnoy (vocals, drums, percussion); James LaBrie (vocals); Jordan Rudess (lap steel guitar, keyboards); John Myung (bass instrument). Recording information: The Hit Factory, New York, New York (11/2004 - 02/2005).

Buy text Links

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Clyde_Lee_Dennisde' Noize Bandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01180331714435735874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3715633806200319101.post-19425677019719467512008-11-15T23:30:00.000+08:002008-11-15T23:34:22.146+08:00Top 7 Hard Rock And Heavy Metal Guitar TuningsBy Johnny Stall

There are many different guitar tunings that are used in Rock and Metal music besides standard tuning. Guitar players in these genres like to use these tunings because they give a heavier and darker sound to their music.

Some of the more popular tunings used are Dropped D, Dropped C, Dropped B, E Flat, D, C and open G. Here are the descriptions of how the strings should be tuned and some of the bands that use them.

Dropped D tuning:

E ----------1st string

B ----------2nd string

G ----------3rd string

D ----------4th string

A ----------5th string

D ----------6th string (thickest)

This tuning enables power chords to be played with a single finger on the lowest three strings and produces a dark sound with it. If you're music doesn't fit together with this dark sound, you can place a capo on the 2nd fret and can still easily play power chords.

Some bands that use Dropped D tuning are:

Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Godsmack, Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine, Silverchair, Soundgarden and Velvet Revolver.

Dropped C tuning:

D ----------1st string

A ----------2nd string

F ----------3rd string

C ----------4th string

G ----------5th string

C ----------6th string (thickest)

Dropped C tuning is the Dropped D with each string lowered one whole step. Dropped C tuning produces a very low and heavy sound and is used by many of the new Heavy Metal bands.

Some bands that use Dropped C tuning are:

30 Seconds to Mars, Atreyu, Buckethead, Bullet for My Valentine, Children of Bodom, Godsmack, Bad Religion, Metallica, Mudvayne, P.O.D., Papa Roach, Rammstein, Shadows Fall, System of a Down, Three Days Grace and Ozzy Osbourne.

Dropped B tuning:

C# ----------1st string

G# ----------2nd string

E ----------3rd string

B ----------4th string

F# ---------5th string

B ----------6th string (thickest)

This tuning will need heavier gauge strings to be effective. Also you might have to widen the string grooves as well as adjust the tension in the neck of your guitar.

Some bands that use Dropped B tuning are:

Audioslave, Limp Bizkit, Machine Head, Mudvayne, Slipknot and Stone Sour.

Eb tuning:

Eb ---------1st string

Bb ---------2nd string

Gb ---------3rd string

Db ---------4th string

Ab ---------5th string

Eb ---------6th string (thickest)

This tuning is Standard tuning turned down a half step. There are a few reasons that bands use this tuning instead of Standard tuning. One reason is to sound heavier by using heavy gauge strings. By tuning down a half step it is easier to bend these heavy gauged strings. Another reason why some bands use this tuning is to compliment the lead singers voice.

Bands that use Eb tuning are:

Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Dream Theater, Guns N' Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Kiss, Megadeth, Metallica, Motorhead, Nirvana, Poison, Slayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Stone Sour, Van Halen, Weezer and Yngwie Malmsteen.

D tuning:

D ----------1st string

A ----------2nd string

F ----------3rd string

C ----------4th string

G ----------5th string

D ----------6th string (thickest)

D tuning is also known as whole step down tuning and as you have probably already guessed, it's Standard tuning tuned down a whole step. D tuning has been used mainly in Heavy Metal music.

Bands that have used D tuning are:

Alice in Chains, The Beatles, Bullet For My Valentine, Bob Dylan, Children of Bodom, Dream Theater, Guns N' Roses, Motley Crue, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Racer X and Soundgarden.

C tuning:

C ----------1st string

G ----------2nd string

Eb ---------3rd string

Bb ---------4th string

F ----------5th string

C ----------6th string (thickest)

C tuning also produces a low sound that is mostly used by Hard Rock and Metal bands. The tuning is 2 whole steps below Standard tuning, which gives it a heavy sound but still maintains the same intervals as Standard tuning.

Bands that have used C tuning are:

Atreyu, Black Sabbath, Bullet For My Valentine, Deftones, Dream Theater, Jimi Hendrix, P.O.D., Queens of the Stone Age, Slipknot, Steve Vai and The Who.

G tuning:

D ----------1st string

B ----------2nd string

G ----------3rd string

D ----------4th string

G ----------5th string

D ----------6th string (thickest)

Other than the Drop D tuning, G Tuning is one of the most popular alternate guitar tunings.

Some bands that have used G tuning are:

The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Pink Floyd and Pearl Jam.

These are just some of the alternate guitar tunings that are available to you to experiment with. Play around with them and see which tunings fit your style of music.

"Teach Yourself Guitar The EASY Way" - grab your FREE report that Reveals "How to Avoid the Top 7 Mistakes That Most Beginners Make When Buying a Guitar Learning Product"

http://teach-yourself-guitar.com/freereport

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Johnny_Stallde' Noize Bandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01180331714435735874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3715633806200319101.post-80311011259601654742008-10-05T01:19:00.000+08:002008-10-05T01:22:11.480+08:00Classic Rock History - What is Classic Rock?By Wendy Pan

Classic rock - the definition defies most, and yet, everyone knows a classic rock song when they hear one. What makes it classic exactly? Well, for starters, it should be an older song. Nineties rock tunes do not qualify. Generally, 70's, maybe a few 80's and 60's can qualify for the esteemed title of "classic rock."

Generally, classic rock history begins with artists that still occupy radio time today, most of whom still generate huge crowds and pack large venues. The Who, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane - all of these artists are included in the classic rock genre. But does every song ever recorded by them qualify? No. Just the ones we remember, in our heads and in our hearts.

Classic Rock History - Come on Baby Light My Fire

The Doors with Jim Morrison leading the pack came onto the scene in the late 60's, featuring dark themes (Riders on the Storm for one) along with cryptic song lyrics. Cementing them into the roots of rock and roll history was Jim Morrison's untimely death.

Revolver, the Beatles' thirteenth album released in America. A turning point for The Beatles because it represented styles from their original, earlier works as well as experimental stylings for their latter works. Revolver is often hailed as one of the best albums in classic rock history.

The Rolling Stones, with Mick Jagger still in the mix today, has given the world a bevy of classic rock songs. The album, Sticky Fingers, in particular, was released at a time when the band was experimenting and still struggling to sculpt its identity.

Who Are You?

It's hard to turn on the television set these days without hearing one or two classic rock songs. Whether they are starting a television series or used for a commercial, advertisers know that nostalgia sells, especially for the middle-aged demographic. The Who has released a number of (now) classic rock songs and one of them starts the program CSI, making it even more popular than ever.

Wish You Were Here

Pink Floyd, those crazy Englishmen, have sold millions of albums world-wide. But what puts them at the top of the heap of classic rock history? Longevity. That's what all of these bands and their songs that have stuck with us to modern day have in common. These songs are timeless. The album Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd may not have been their most popular album, but it does delve into some sticky mental issues that founding member Syd Barrett was having at the time.

Led Zeppelin - Enough Said

Led Zeppelin produced perhaps, the most agreed upon classic rock song ever: Stairway to Heaven. This song is comprised of several different and distinct "sections" that give a living, breathing feel to the music. This song is probably the single most requested song on American airwaves today. Composed by Jimmy Page with vocals executed by Robert Plant, this song is the anchor of all classic rock songs.

Classic rock is a genre well known and loved by people in their teens all the way into their later years. In it, we find comfort and excitement, a nostalgia that is timeless and one we firmly believe will never be duplicated.

Wendy Pan is an accomplished niche website developer and author.

To learn more about classic rock history, please visit Oldies Music Site for current articles and discussions.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Wendy_Pande' Noize Bandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01180331714435735874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3715633806200319101.post-84635032334791140862008-08-26T02:02:00.000+08:002008-08-26T02:22:44.431+08:00Eric Clapton - Tears In Heavenby Kathy Unruh

Though Eric Clapton wrote "Tears in Heaven" several years ago, it is one of those timeless, familiar songs that people love to hear because it provides comfort and healing when times are hard. I found myself playing this song over and over on my guitar after my mother died back in 1997. The words and music helped me to express my feelings and process through my grief.

Learn More About Eric Clapton - Improve Your Playing Too...!

As you may know, Eric Clapton wrote "Tears in Heaven" after his 4½-year-old son, Conor, fell 53 stories from an open window. Eric was interviewed about this tragedy in 2003 where he said:

I almost subconsciously used music for myself as a healing agent, and lo and behold, it worked...

Clapton also said...

I have got a great deal of happiness and a great deal of healing from music.

Will Jennings collaborated with Eric in the writing of "Tears In Heaven", but he was reluctant to do so at first. He explained the situation this way...

Eric and I were engaged to write a song for a movie called Rush. We wrote a song called 'Help Me Up' for the end of the movie... then Eric saw another place in the movie for a song and he said to me, 'I want to write a song about my boy.' Eric had the first verse of the song written, which, to me, is all the song, but he wanted me to write the rest of the verse lines and the release ('Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees...'), even though I told him that it was so personal he should write everything himself. He told me that he had admired the work I did with Steve Winwood and finally there was nothing else but to do as he requested, despite the sensitivity of the subject. This is a song so personal and so sad that it is unique in my experience of writing songs. - Will Jennings

Conor's life may have been short, but it was not insignificant. Eric used Conor's death as an example to help create greater public awareness for children's safety. He said in a public service announcement...

Use guards on windows and safety gates on stairs. It's easy, and it could prevent a terrible tragedy. Believe me, I know - Eric Clapton

Eric's experience demonstrates that good things can come out of tragedy and misfortune. As he said earlier, music provides a means to alleviate sorrow and help a person persevere through difficulty. In his autobiography, Clapton, Eric admitted that he is now a man of prayer as well. So, it seems reasonable to conclude that if we combine the 3 essential ingredients of music, faith and prayer, we might end up with a pretty good recipe for a hopeful future!

FREE Reprint Rights - You may publish this article in your e-zine or on your web site as long as you include the following information:

Kathy Unruh has been writing songs and providing guitar lessons to students of all ages for over 25 years.

Please Save Google AdSense!

Artikel ini ditulis oleh Cosa Aranda dan pertama kali dipublikasikan pada tanggal 28 August 2007. Stewart Copeland's older brother Miles Copeland III heard "Roxanne" for the first time and immediately got them a record deal with A&M Records. Originally released in 1978, the single was re-released in 1979, and it was then that the Police gained widespread recognition in the United Kingdom, as well as scoring a minor hit with the song in several other countries, notably Australia. Their success led to a gig at the famous New York club CBGB and a gruelling United States tour in which the band drove themselves and all their equipment around the country in a Ford Econoline van.

In October 1979, the group released their second album Reggatta de Blanc, which was a major seller in many countries and which spawned the U.K. singles "Message In A Bottle," their first #1, and "Walking on the Moon," also a chart topper. The instrumental title track would win the Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

In March 1980, the Police did their first world tour, and they were one of the first major rock bands to play in places like Mexico City, Mexico, Bombay, India and Egypt. The Mexico City show was filmed by Canal 13. In May A&M in Great Britain released "Six Pack (The Police)," an expensive package containing the 5 previous A&M singles (not including "Fall Out") in their original sleeves plus a mono alternate take of the popular album track (from Regatta De Blanc) "The Bed's Too Big Without You" backed with a live version of the Outlandos d'Amour track "Truth Hits Everybody." It reached #17 in the U.K. singles chart although chart regulations introduced later in the decade would have classed it as an album.

Pressured by their record company for a new record and a prompt return to touring, the Police released their third album, Zenyatta Mondatta, in the autumn of 1980. The album gave the group their third U.K. #1 hit, "Don't Stand So Close to Me", and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da", which charted in the United States. In subsequent interviews Sting stated that he regretted the rushed recording for the album. However, many critics would later cite it as one of their strongest efforts. The instrumental "Behind My Camel," written by Andy Summers won the band a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. The song "Don't Stand So Close to Me" won the Grammy for Best Rock Vocal Performance For Duo Or Group.

Stardom

By this time Sting was becoming a major star, and he established a career beyond the Police by branching out into acting. He made a well-received debut as the 'Ace Face' in Quadrophenia the film version of The Who's rock opera, followed by a role as a mechanic in love with Eddie Cochran's music in Chris Petit's Radio On. He also played the character Feyd Rautha' in DuneThe Adventures of Baron Munchausen. and a soldier who is executed for being too brave in

As Sting's fame rose, his relationship with band founder Stewart Copeland began to deteriorate. The increasingly strained partnership was further stretched by the pressures of worldwide publicity and fame, conflicting egos, and their financial success. Meanwhile, both Sting and Summers' marriages failed (Sting settled down with new partner Trudie Styler, whom he later married, while Summers, after a brief relationship that fathered a son Andrew Jr., re-married his second wife Kate).

The Police's fourth album, Ghost in the Machine, co-produced by Hugh Padgham, was released in 1981. It featured thicker sounds, layered saxophones, and vocal textures. It spawned the hit singles, "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic", "Invisible Sun", and "Spirits in the Material World". As the band were unable to agree on a cover picture, the album cover had three red pictographs, "digital" likenesses of the three band members in the style of segmented LED displays, set against a black background. In the 1980s, Sting and Andy Summers became tax exiles and moved to Ireland (Sting to Roundstone in Galway, and Andy to Kinsale in County Cork) while Stewart, an American, remained in England.

The Police took a sabbatical in 1982, with Sting pursuing his acting career, co-starring with Denholm Elliot and Joan Plowright in the Richard Loncraine film version of Dennis Potter's play Brimstone and Treacle. He also had a minor solo hit in the United Kingdom with the movie's theme song, "Spread A Little Happiness" (which appeared on the Brimstone and Treacle soundtrack, along with three new Police tracks). Summers recorded his first album with Robert Fripp, I Advance Masked.

The Police released their last album, Synchronicity, in 1983. Notable songs from that album include "Every Breath You Take", "Wrapped Around Your Finger", "King of Pain" and the foreboding "Synchronicity II". Except for "King of Pain", the singles were accompanied by music videos directed by Godley & Creme. This album hit #1 in both the U.K. (where it debuted at #1) and the U.S. It stayed at #1 in the U.K. for only two weeks and in the U.S. for 17 weeks. It was nominated for the Album of the Year Grammy, but lost to the inevitable winner, Michael Jackson's Thriller.

The Police beat out Jackson in one category: "Every Breath You Take" won the Grammy for Song Of The Year, beating Jackson's "Billie Jean". "Every Breath You Take" also won the Grammy for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal while "Synchronicity II" won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. "Every Breath You Take" also won the American Video Award for Best Group video and nabbed two Ivor Novello Awards for the categories Best Song Musically & Lyrically and Most Performed Work. In 1983, Stewart Copeland composed the musical score for Rumble Fish a film directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola from the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.E._Hinton" class="mw-redirect" title="S.E. A song released to radio on A& M Records "Don't Box Me In (theme From Rumble Fish)", a collaboration between Copeland and singer/songwriter Stan Ridgway leader of the band Wall of Voodoo, received significant airplay upon release of the film that year.

Break-up

Although there was never an official split, each band member pursued his own solo career after the Synchronicity tour ended in March 1984. In June 1986, the trio reconvened to play three concerts for the Amnesty International A Conspiracy of Hope Tour. In July of that year, a tense short-lived reunion in the studio produced only subdued re-recordings of "Don't Stand So Close to Me" and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da". The former was released in October 1986 as their final single together in the form of "Don't Stand So Close To Me '86" (a substantially reworked version of the 1980 original), appeared on the compilation Every Breath You Take: The Singles, and made the UK Top 25. By this time, it was clear that Sting had no intention of continuing with the band, having already released a successful solo debut LP in 1985, the jazz-influenced The Dream of the Blue Turtles.

In 1992, Sting wed Trudie Styler. Summers and Copeland were invited to the ceremony and reception. Aware that all band members were present, the wedding guests pressured the trio into playing, and they ultimately performed "Roxanne" and "Message In A Bottle." Copeland said later that "after about three minutes, it became 'the thing' again." Also in 1992, Andy Summers served a brief stint as Musical Director on the short-lived "Dennis Miller Show".

On March 10, 2003, the Police were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and performed "Roxanne," "Message In a Bottle," and "Every Breath You Take" live, as a group. The last song was performed alongside Steven Tyler, Gwen Stefani, and John Mayer. Towards the end of the song, Copeland, known for tightening his drum heads until his knuckles turn white, as well as striking the drums with excessive force, was playing the drums so hard that the head of his snare drum broke. That fall Sting released his autobiography, "Broken Music".

In 2004, Henry Padovani (the band's guitarist before Andy Summers joined) released an album with the participation of Stewart Copeland and Sting in one track, reuniting the "original" Police members in a performance for the first time since 1977. Digital signal processing and analog signal processing are subfields of signal processing. DSP includes subfields like: audio and speech signal processing, sonar and radar signal processing, sensor array processing, spectral estimation, statistical signal processing, digital image processing, signal processing for communications, biomedical signal processing, seismic data processing, etc.

Since the goal of DSP is usually to measure or filter continuous real-world analog signals, the first step is usually to convert the signal from an analog to a digital form, by using an analog to digital converter. Often, the required output signal is another analog output signal, which requires a digital to analog converter.

DSP algorithms have long been run on standard computers, on specialized processors called digital signal processors (DSPs), or on purpose-built hardware such as application-specific integrated circuit (ASICs). Today there are additional technologies used for digital signal processing including more powerful general purpose microprocessors, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), digital signal controllers (mostly for industrial apps such as motor control), and stream processors, among others.
yb7hx with audio dungdunghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07220329969407071962noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3715633806200319101.post-12755128504235515872008-07-11T14:48:00.000+08:002008-07-20T23:14:25.142+08:00Queen (band) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia<table class="infobox vcard" style="width: 23em;
